UNLOCKING THE FIBONACCI CRYPTEX

DIS-ASSEMBLAGE
To start of our year in the Achitecture course, we began by dismantling old electronic items to its bare minimal, or to the point where we were unable to break it down any further.
This object was from an old MacBook, Nokia phone and a calculator that was dismantled. Usng these broken pieces, each group combined all of their dismantled eletronic items together to create a random object and after which, photos were taken at all interesting aspects of the object and traced, leading to the below pictures.
The completed tracings were overlapped for us to produce an A2 trace
This 21 x 21cm selection was picked out from the A2 tracing and is also used to derive the keywords, which was our design generators for the entire project.
The keywords selected were:
-Levitation
the raising or rising of a body in air by supernatural means
In relation to detachment and fading lineweights, the the illusion of objects floating or coming forward toward the viewer is created. This also illustrates the movement of each object.
-Detachment
to unfasten and seperate
There is a subtle yet distinct area of seperation and independence between each part of the drawing. In the mid section of the selected portion, the eye visually connections each part together., however, it is actually not joint together.
-Depth
A dimension taken through an object or body of material
Due to the varying lineweights, a 3 dimentsional visual effect is created as thicker marks shows the foreground whilte thinner marks show the background.
-Density
The state or quality of compactness
As seen especially at the nearer to the centre of the image, this area consists of many more thicker and bolder lines as compared to the rest of the drawing. Hence, portraying density.
Alignment to Keyword
Levitation
This is portrayed through the planes seemingly defying gravity as if it is floating on its own. Furthermore, the planes are held apart by sticks, which displays a sense of an invisible force lifting each plane that emphasizes levitation.
Detachment
Certains planes are bended or seperated at their joints. Howecver, at first glace, it may seem to be one full piece. This shows detachment, which also promotes levitation.
The structure of the model also follows the concept of density as at certain angles, there are more planes seeen that are grouped together while some areas consists of lesser planes.
Depth
A 3 Dimensional effect could achieved as there are planes that are clearly in the foreground and the rest at the background, showing the sense of depth. The sense of depth could also be felt by a plane that is suspended in the centre of a box with sides that are detached and seemingly floating away.

PLANES AND VOLUMES
3 Materials were chosen to make the final model, which should showcase and enhance the viewer's understanding of the relation between the design generators with the model. By helping the viewer sense the strong space pockets that is 'suspending' each volume / plane.
Materials chosen were :
Transparent sticks
Translucent volumes
Opaque planes
Transparent sticks were used as since viewers are still able to see through the sticks, it would be as if the sticks were not even there, giving the illusion that the planes and voulmes were floating about their own spaces.
Transclucent volumes acted as a mould to shape the positions of bends and cuts of some planes, while still enabling viewers to achieve spatial awareness of its spacial quality, alongside with depth.
Opaque planes serves as the levitating object.
