DWELLING [place]

Among all spaces around man, home is the most direct space related to man that affects him and gets affected by him on a daily basis. It is the first space that man experiences a feeling of belonging. That briefly described what dwelling means to me.

The design of the dwelling unit is inspired by my client’s favorite artist Ai Wei Wei’s artwork. The architecture’s spatial qualities, tectonic, circulation systems, and the building skins is influenced by the art form’s craft techniques, expression and philosophy. It is the transformation of an artist's artwork to a place of living.

The dwelling unit is also designed to be cooled by using passive strategies, naturally ventilating all habitable spaces with the prevailing wind.

My intention was to separate the common space and the private space. As shown in all my process models, I’ve plan my 1st story to be a common space and 2nd story to be private space. Secondly to use 3 simple volumes as a basic idea behind this house.

Ai weiwei is an artist known for creating works of art that refashion old objects and break down conventions. Most of his artwork are based on Chinese culture and society. Which involved with using repetitions of subjects and certain module. For example, like the project “Forever bicycle” ’stools” “template” and “Snake ceiling”. Hence, from all these works, I’ve come out with a basic concept of this dwelling place, REPETITION by introducing L and C as the main form in the house.
